About the Studio
Elizabeth Jennings Piano Studio offers private piano in 30-minute lessons to students of all ages including adults, both new and transfer students, and one-hour group lessons in the summer for beginning students ages 5-6.
After teaching for almost twenty years, my goals are 1) to instill in students an enjoyment of piano, playing for both their own hobby and for others, and 2) to lay a solid foundation of musical knowledge. We work hard on learning all there is to interpreting music on the page, developing good technique, understanding and using music theory, and translating all of it into a beautiful experience for the audience.
I am very aware of the side benefits of learning a
musical instrument and try to reinforce those each
week: learning
organization
skills, developing
personal pride in
a job well done,
sharing a
beautiful
performance with
other people,
learning how to work
towards and
accomplish
a goal, and
developing the ability
to interpret notes
on a
page while adding layers
of
emotion to the music while
coordinating hand
and foot
movements
in two different
directions (playing the pedal) at the
same
time.
Activites
include:
sight reading
classical, pop, and jazz tunes, and music to follow the seasons
music theory and ear training
technique work
music appreciation & history
Christmas party and spring recital
two group lessons each year for the entire studio to explore music history, theory games, and additional performance opportunities
National Piano Guild auditions for students with 2+ years experience
MMTA programs, as applicable
beginning composing
I teach in my home studio, rather than traveling to your house or teach through another studio. Why? Situated in my home, I have music theory and composition software available for students; I have a large collection of piano books always available for a spur-of-the-moment reference or loaning; I have space for a group of students to meet and work together; I have a good instrument for students to play on; and you'll never get a "substitute" teacher. I believe that these benefit your child.
