Important House Members to Contact

I'm no legislative expert, but my understanding is that health related bills must first be approved by the Health and Human Services committee and the Government Operations committee before being considered by the full House. Generally (but not always!), the Senate committees take a "wait and see" attitude, allowing the House to act first on the matter. Hence, it's very important to write, phone, fax, email, or carrier-pigeon the members of these important committees often during the next few months.

The House of Representatives has a web page that contains links to oodles of data. A complete list of House Member's Email Addresses and other contact info is available online. You can also get background info about individual House members from this page (it's nice to know something about the people you're dealing with). Don't forget to call the House Public Information Office (HPIO) at 651-296-2146 or fax 651-297-8135 if you have inquiries. Call HPIO for those lovely Member Directory booklets! In 1998 and 1999, the House acted first on these bills, while the Senate took a wait and see approach based on what the House did first. If you have limited time and resources to contact legislators, start with the Representatives listed below.

The following contact info for House members is being updated for the new 2001 session. Remember that the House has a Republican majority now, so committee assignments, chairmanships, etc. have all radically changed from previous years. See Contact Info for an explanation of the following info. House committees also have home pages and other contact info listed below. To contact committee offices, contact the committee chair-person.
