Artist's Statement

"The recent series titled "Field Guides" is part of an intimate catalog of places known as prairies, deserts, oceans, forests, etc. I am interested in nature as experienced in the body, not the distanced "view" that the camera often portrays in landscape photography. My preference is for the empirical (knowing through observation and experience) and the inductive (from particular to the general). In these photographs my hope is that nature is viewed simultaneously as factual, intimate, and imaginary." For more images of Field Guides click on the web page -
