I am deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of Senator Paul Wellstone, his wife Sheila, their daughter Marcia, three members of his campaign staff and the pilots of the plane that went down near Eveleth. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends. I got to know Paul and Sheila when we campaigned together throughout Southern Minnesota, and I saw firsthand the genuine commitment and tremendous energy they brought to their life's work, which was all about helping people. He was fearless, setting an example for all of us to follow, and we will miss him.
