The office also receives recall petitions. As keeper of the Great Seal of the state of Minnesota, the Secretary of State certifies the authenticity of official records, documents, proclamations and executive orders of the Governor, and acts of the Legislature.

The Secretary of State serves with the other constitutional officers (Governor, State Auditor, Attorney General, State Treasurer) on two special state policy boards: the Executive Council and the State Board of Investment.
