These instructions will help you download the Quicktime Player. For other information about Apple's QuickTime, we consult the site's home page. For the free Quicktime Player, go to the QuickTime Download Page.

Enter your email address in the top box.

On the page, there are two buttons where you can select which installer to download: Macintosh or Windows 95/98/NT. Select your operating system.

Click on the Download QuickTime button.

You will probably see: "In the Save As dialog box, choose the location to which you'd like to save the file."

Download the small (700K) installer to your desktop. Double-click the QuickTime Installer application, and it takes you through the process.

Agree to the terms of the software license, and a dialog box pops up and asks you to select a setting that best matches your network connection speed (you can change this setting at any time from within the QuickTime Settings control panel).

Next, you get to choose between Basic Playback, Deluxe Playback, QuickTime Authoring and Custom installations. Preview your options before you click the “Continue” button to proceed; the installer gives you a brief description of each. The Basic Playback option, for instance, includes everything you need to use the QuickTime Player and view digital media inside your web browser. But most people who do not have QuickTime 3 already installed would want the Deluxe Playback option.

Click the “Continue” button, and the QuickTime 4 Installer will automatically download and install the appropriate files for your computer. Restart your computer if the program prompts you to.
